Africa - High Key Photography
A high-key image is the product of a photographic technique that creates a certain impact. The shot is usually over-exposed in bright light conditions to create an image that accentuates the balance of light between subject and the background. The idea is to preserve detail and dark tones in the subject whilst nearly or totally overexposing (blowing out) much of the background. In this collection of high-key images, the wildlife shots were taken mostly around midday and early afternoon when the sunlight was intense, with a featureless background or sky serving as a backdrop.
The natural world is arguably the most precious of our heritages and legacies. Through photography we see and feel a wonder that the naked eye cannot quite appreciate. It is through a passion of photography that I derive a great sense of pleasure, not least as it invites one to a pathway of adventure.
